Indoor air
Moisture & mold
How BC rain and closed-up winters drive condensation, musty smells, and mold — and what actually stops it.
Coastal BC stays wet for months. Indoor air holds more moisture when houses are sealed for heat, laundry runs indoors, and crawl spaces feed damp air upward.
Most mold problems start as uncontrolled moisture: roof water at the foundation, a wet crawl, a blocked dryer vent, or chronic window condensation. Kill the water source first. Cleaning mold without fixing moisture is a temporary tidy-up.
Practical order: find where water enters or is generated, improve drainage and exhaust, then dry the space. Dehumidifiers help after sources are controlled — they do not replace gutters, grade, or a ground cover.
